Believe it or not, weight management is a simple science. Our weight ultimately comes down to the calories we consume versus the calories we burn. A pound of fat is equivalent to 3500 calories. So, when you burn more calories than you consume, you have what is known as a caloric deficit and you are on your way to dropping weight. At Fit Fx we can help with the calories you burn, but let’s face it, if you aren’t paying attention to your diet then you are creating quite the uphill battle for yourself when it comes to the scale. One of the primary reasons we have a caloric surplus rather than a caloric deficit is because as a society we tend to overeat. Even when we make healthy food choices, we still tend to eat too much of it.
Again, Fit Fx is here to melt those calories away in the gym, but that doesn’t mean we can’t help guide you in the right direction while you’re away as well! Here are three steps to eliminate the problem of overeating:

1.)  Pay attention!
In America we are set up for failure with the large amounts of food we get at restaurants and the fact that eating is encouraged at social events.
One way to do this is to not eat while doing other activities. You consume a large amount of food at restaurants and social gatherings because you are either talking or watching the activity in front of you, paying little attention to your food. When we now what we are eating and how much of it we are eating, we can eliminate hundreds and hundreds of calories each week, which means eliminating pounds of fat as well!

2.) Know what you’re eating!
Seems like a no-brainer, right? The reality is that most people eat without having a clue what they are putting in their bodies. When we choose our meals, we should strive for balance and look for protein, vegetables, whole grains, and fruit, all while limiting fat and sweets. Once we condition our body to crave the good and not the bad, we will lose that natural urge to overeat. Keep these foods in mind when you are shopping and preparing meals and you’ll be set up for healthy, low-calorie meals that you won’t find yourself regretting later!

3.) Listen to your body!
Your body knows when it’s hungry and when it’s full. The problem is that we have learned to ignore the signs by eating through our meals so fast and not giving our bodies the chance to tell us. By the time our body catches up to rate we’ve been eating, we feel way too full. One way to avoid this is to eat slower and allow our body to tell us what it needs. Even if you’re only half way through your meal, if you feel full, stop eating!

Weight loss is not the product of gimmick diets or crazy long workouts. It’s simply calories in versus calories out and watching what we are eating! Although we aren’t going to be shopping with you or fixing your meals, we can help you here at Fit Fx!
